Tzu-Chieh Hsueh, originally from Wulai (Taiwan), studied at the Department of Drama at the National Taiwan University of the Arts. After graduating, he dedicated himself to theater directing, writing and acting. Passionate about cross-border cooperation with various arts and cultures, he is interested in finding ways to dialogue with today’s society through different creative media with diverse communities and groups. His main creative themes revolve around ethnic groups and the ambiguous state that cannot be clearly explained, focusing on various contradictions, conflicts and phenomena of contemporary times, and the extraordinary in the ordinary. He has carried out field work with various communities, such as people with special abilities, high school students, the LGBT community, sex workers, among others, to rehearse and develop scenic works with the community and relationships as the main axis.
His creations have been supported many times by the National Arts Council and the Ministry of Culture, and his works have been exhibited in international art centers. Likewise, he has participated in numerous international art festivals in such relevant cities as Tokyo and Sydney. His creative media includes modern drama, technological art, installation, documentary video and short film.
