Right from the start of his artistic career, Juan Carlos Bracho has investigated in great detail questions like the concept of space and our links with it. His most recent studies deal with concepts like the derivations of drawing as mapping tool, the circularity of the contemporary creative process and images’ status in our society.

The starting point for most of his works is a drawing. It is understood as a conceptual space which generates ideas. This discipline follows an intense, rigorous and original set of repetitive gestures, as a result one may expect to observe a rigid and monotonous style. Instead, Bracho surprises us with powerful and evocative images and set designs.

Throughout systematic addition processes and the repetition of minimal graphic elements such as lines, points, strokes and lately even graphite’s own dust, Bracho has built a discourse which allows him to reflect on the stages of sight, the image’s meaning and its mental consolidation process. Furthermore, it also sheds light on the possibilities that the scenery offers as a symbolic transformation field, he also delves into the discipline and severity of the artistic praxis in contrast with the genius ideas and the romantic cliche. Finally, he reflects about the esthetic experience as a sublime catharsis, according to him nowadays the artists flee from such responsibility.

Juan Carlos Bracho expresses himself through minimalism, he immerses into impalpable ephimeral and subjective grounds in order to put the audience in front of a mirror, there we will only find as much as we are inclined to give. It is an experience through the experience. The whole of Bracho’s works include video, photography, installation, performances, sculpture, spun art, drawing and artist books. These projects have in common a strong procedural character which share a connection between them time and time again, it is like the neverending path we can achieve when confronting two parallel mirrors.
