Beatriz Freire (Castelo Branco, Portugal) visual and textile artist.
The focus of his theoretical-practical approach is based on the convergence between Textile and Film, extending to anthropological field research. Graduated in Law and Archives/Documentation, she began self-taught in the textile arts, focusing her learning on manual textile manufacturing.
In practice, it seeks to expand its reach to other fields; an approach called «expanded tissue.» He also integrates anthropological research into his artistic process, exploring habits, cultural practices, traditions, ways of doing things about humans and their environment, integrating these discoveries into the fabric of his works.

An essential part of his research focuses on the study of the use of codes as a language to translate the surrounding environment, seeking to extract meanings from them and incorporate them into his works. Recording, using celluloid as fiber and fabric or translating sounds and images into textile codes, resulting in live performances with the screen, is another aspect of the research, which incorporates textile processes into film practices.

This “expanded fabric” seeks to transcend its traditional limits, exploring new creative territories and transforming fabric into a means to decipher and interpret the world. A holistic approach that reflects on the form of your creations and the essence of your creative process.
